the MSMI Intelligencer Report
Who needs Cannes ?
Every year at the end of June, industry leaders from all fields of marketing, media, communications and advertising jet to the south of France for the prestigious Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. It’s where marketing executives, creatives, and thought leaders gather to celebrate and award outstanding creative achievements, share innovative ideas, and discuss the future of the industry. But real marketing insiders knew “the place to be” last week was at the Empire Rooftop…it’s where the brightest young marketing minds were gathering.
Glasses were raised and toasts were made to celebrate the achievements and success of MSMI Cohort 12. It was also a night to celebrate the vision of Dr. Peter Johnson who introduced and designed the program twelve years ago and has guided over 550 graduates. Alums from many of the prior cohorts were there to express their gratitude to Dr. Johnson and their encouragement and support to the most recent grads. With the sun setting against the NY skyline, it was the best “destination dupe” of the year.

Meanwhile at that other venue, GSB prof. Aniko Delaney was on the scene to report back on the latest trends. She attended a wide range of sessions and panels with the Wall Street Journal, Boston Consulting Group, Adobe and Forbes. Key topics discussed included the efficiency of #AI, the importance of human creativity and the impact of creating emotional connections. “It was exciting to attend and hear CEOs, CMOs, and other thought leaders share their insights and challenges to industry leaders to create positive change and offer innovative ideas to drive change.” said prof.
