Marketing Red, White & Blue
Every July 4th as the US celebrates Independence Day, marketers have an opportunity to attract attention to their brands and connect with consumers during their celebrations. Marketers and retailers in almost every industry from food, beverages, apparel, home improvement, fireworks, travel, and automotive, all turn to special “red, white and blue” sales promotions. Deals and sales start in mid-June. Unlike the Super Bowl, it’s not about big ad campaigns. During this time, sales promotions and in-store marketing strategies take center stage because Americans are expected to spend $1.4 Billion on items such as beer and wine and consume 150 million hot dogs. It’s the highest-selling beer holiday during the year. Wallet Hub provides an excellent infographic of both retail sales and some of the behaviors driving these numbers can be found here .
And following up on last month’s report on travel, 55% of Americans still plan to travel on July 4th even though inflation and gas prices will affect their plans. (Source: The Vacationer’s full study is here )

The best idea is to find a friend with access to a roof or terrace. Or throw your own viewing party. The broadcast show will start at 8 PM on NBC and Peacock. Here’s a great list of other activities and events over the holiday weekend.
